PEEF, the Pearce Excellence in Education Fund, supports ALL students and staff at Pearce by providing the much needed financial resources for various academic programs, technology enhancements, special classroom materials and even professional development for teachers.  Every student at Pearce, in one way or another, benefits from PEEF.

PEEF was founded in 2003 by a group of concerned parents who recognized that to continue Pearce's long-standing reputation for excellence in education, an organization dedicated to funding academics was necessary.  Since its inception, PEEF has raised more than $600,000 to support academics at Pearce.

Think about it......booster clubs for athletics, choir, theater, Pacesetters, band and other Pearce organizations are very successful in raising funds and providing volunteers for their activities.  But who is looking after classroom and teacher needs?  This is where PEEF comes in.  So many programs at Pearce that all of us take for granted - SOS, science labs, new novels for English classrooms, or paying for staff development programs or purchasing technology for the classrooms - are funded by our school community through PEEF.

For the 2016-2019 school years, approximately $100,000 in support has been requested by the teachers and principal Mike Evans to fund such programs and classroom materials.   Each year, PEEF donates around $25,000 back to JJ Pearce. Click on the tab "WHAT PEEF FUNDS" to see a list of this year's requests.

It is our hope that every family makes some level of financial commitment to their child's high school by supporting PEEF.  Every dollar counts!  Our school simply cannot maintain or expand its excellent foundation of teaching YOUR child without YOUR support
of PEEF.  Visit our "DONATE NOW" page now.

If you have any questions or want to get involved, please e-mail us

Q&A from Mustang Morning MeetUp

Questions and Answers from the PEEF Mustang Morning MeetUp 9/15/2020

First Day of Face-to-face “Celebration” – how will it look?  Will there be something similar for the kids who chose to not return until the second nine weeks or the third nine weeks? – yes, we will do something again for the beginning of the 2nd quarter. I will also find some ways to recognize our virtual students at home. Still thinking about how to do this…but I will find a way!

How will the social distancing and timing be used to reduce risk to students walking in through this celebration?  We are utilizing 3 entrances with bus drops off at the auditorium entrance, Senior Way entrance and the main entrance– students will arrive between 8:30 – 9:00 – not all at once. We will have adult supervision.

 Senior band/football parents:
I’m wondering about how senior night will work at the football game. Are announcements just for football & band kids?
Will parents walk out of the field with seniors?
Is it during pre-game?
Timing?
Do we need to share post-high plans with anyone for the announcer? I remember this process from last years, but not sure how seniors found out all the details.
Information from sponsors/coaches will be coming soon. Admin doesn’t coordinate this.

For parents of freshmen, are there any resources like Pearce 101? Due to COVID, I feel like freshmen orientations that would have happened were canceled. We are looking into this. I will talk to counselors as well.

How will in-person lunch be managed, especially if your child wants to go through the line just to get a drink or snack? All lunch lines and vending machines will be open. We have 4 lunches. Corral and cafeteria will be used with seats skipped and Plexiglas shields required. Students will scan QR code where they are sitting (to be used if needed for contact tracing).

If only 3 students are allowed in the bathroom at one time, how will students have enough time to use the facilities between classes? Will teachers make allowances for this instead of giving tardies? We are now going to allow up to 4 and will monitor as best we can. Students will be able to go to RR during class as well.

For first period athletes, can they come home to shower before returning to school for the 2nd period? I assume there will not be access to shower facilities at the school.  And do they need to enter the school at a certain entrance due to arriving for the 2nd period instead of 1st? Please email Coach Collins for clarification.

For the student tours this week, where do they enter the building? Auditorium – and then park in the parking area and wait for your freshmen. Tour will take 15-30 minutes.

Will student-athletes - especially those that play football - be monitored differently as they return to school the next day after a football game? It seems that football players playing a contact sport and traveling to other schools will be the most at risk to catch and transmit COVID to other students.  I'm curious if any thought has been given to this. We will monitor students the same by looking for severe symptoms.

If my students has a mild cough/a cold/sore throat etc. - something physically minor -  I'm assuming they should stay home from school. Will they be able to transfer back to virtual learning for the period of time they are homesick? How will that be managed?  How should the school be alerted if I think my child has a cold or some sort of illness, flu, etc.?  And will any sick student be forced to stay home for a 2-week period with the assumption that they could have COVID? Students should email teachers when they are sick. They will not automatically go “virtual” but will be able to participate with class if appropriate. Please call the school when student is sick. Students with severe symptoms will quarantine for 10 days unless doctor confirms an illness other than COVID.

Does the school district see any scenario in the future where COVID testing would be made available to students while on campus? I have not heard anything about this.

Masks? Masks are required everywhere in the building by staff and students.

Will the F2F students still maintain A/B days once they return next week? Yes

I would like to know what the percentage is for JJP in terms of virtual vs in-person this quarter. 65% face-to-face as of Friday.  This is a total of 1564 students with 500-600 students arriving prior to first period for athletics.

Where and when do we sign up for picture taking for the after school sessions? Information for virtual students to sign up will be sent next week via email.

I want to know how they are getting 18-year-olds registered to vote. Working with our social studies teachers on this as well as PTA.

Was it a deliberate decision to not have any moments of silence throughout the, any discussion, or any mentions of 9/11 on 9/11 or for the week leading up to it? No; we forgot to build announcements/moment of silence into 2nd period. I apologize.

Was the topic left up to the individual teachers? I’ve got a freshman and sophomore, and it was not discussed in any of their classes. No – it wasn’t a part of district curriculum last week but will be discussed this week as part of Freedom Week..

Would the school and teachers please address 9/11 this week? Perhaps a moment of silence each day at each moment of significance (8:46am, 9:02am, 9:37am, 9:59am, 10:03am, 10:28am, and 10:50am).
Social Studies classes will have a minute of silence Wednesday/Thursday.

Freshman schedule ... is it for all freshman or only those returning in person? It would be helpful if this could happen at the change of each quarter when different families choose to return. I’m not sure my freshman will remember if he walks thru tomorrow doesn’t return until mid-October or later. Yes, we will look into doing this again for 2nd quarter students who choose face-to-face.

How will the Plexiglas shields work?  Do students get them in 1st period & leave them in 8th? Or go by 8th period to pick them up before 1st?  What about 1st period classes with morning practice until 9am?  How do those students get their shields? Yes, students will be leaving them in their last class and picking them up the next day.

How will ticketing to JJP sports events work?  https://web.risd.org/athletics/

What’s the process and timing for a student who wants to move from an AP class to an on-level class? Deadline is this Friday, Sept. 18.

When or how will F2F freshman get their schedule with room numbers assigned for their freshman tours this week? They are in Focus.

What exactly is Mustang Academy? Mustang Academy is the new and improved version of what we previously called advisory. In the past, students had 7 class periods and 30 minutes of advisory every day. This year, students have 8 periods, one of which is advisory (90 minutes every other day), so nothing has really changed. Students still have 8 classes a day. The schedule was modified to accommodate block scheduling so that students attended fewer periods a day.

Mustang Academy is an opportunity to share lots of important information with our students and meet their needs in a number of ways. This is the time when our freshmen are able to participate in Starting Off Strong (SOS); 9th graders are supported through starting their high school career with the guidance of a select group of seniors. All grades participate in lessons about everything from safety to social emotional learning (especially important in these times!). They may also receive guidance from counselors during this time. Additionally, students have time to attend virtual tutorials (virtual as a safety measure) and (virtual) college fairs; this really helps for students who are involved in different before and after school activities. For students need extra help, we have a variety of interventions in place (from reading and math to mentoring for students who need it). We are able to do all of this without taking time from instruction in other classes.

Students participate in advisory all 4 years. It is not treated as an elective, but is an important time for our students. We have seen a lot of successes come from this time!

When will building open and where do students enter? Building will open at 8:35 – 1st period bell will ring at 8:45 so that students have time to go get shield and get to 1st period on time – teachers will be in classroom/hallways to monitor.
Students may enter at the library entrance or Senior Way/Corral entrance. Bus students will enter at auditorium. The best time to arrive is between 8:45-8:55.
